Soph Teams

A soph is like an automatic best friend who can't wait to meet you.

The Western Orientation program is run by a group of over 800 undergraduate student volunteers ('sophs'), each of whom is dedicated to your transition to University life. We're here to ensure that your move to post-secondary is as smooth, exciting, and comfortable as possible.

How are sophs selected?

The "sophs" are hand-picked from a group of over 1500 applicants. The application and selection process is highly competitive, meaning the people who fill the shoes of a soph can't wait to help out and get to know you.

Volunteers?

The Western Orientation program ("O-Week") is an entirely volunteer-driven program. Every soph is part of this program purely out of a love for Western, O-Week, and making you feel completely at home!

Which soph team is mine?

Take a look at the list on the left. Each first-year student at Western will have a designated Residence or Affiliate soph, as well as a designated Faculty soph. The Charity and Info Team sophs are also an integral part of O-Week, and have lots of important stuff to tell you about. Finally, O-Staff completes the O-Week picture - you'll see them around campus throughout Orientation Week.
