Careers Development

Resume Builder

In addition to maintaining a high GPA and passing SOA courses (for actuarial students), related experience is very important in attracting a company's attention among the mass of resumes they receive.

For those with related experience, great! You're already ahead of the game. But for those without experience in the field, don't despair. You may have more to offer than you think!

When companies are looking to hire summer or graduating students, they are willing to give students without experience a chance. They look for highly motivated individuals with transferable skill sets. Involvement in extracurricular activities and leadership roles around the school community will demonstrate your initiative. There are lots of clubs and programs available to you on and off-campus.

For example:
The Centre for New Students offers a set of leadership modules. Upon completion, you receive a letter from the president of UWO.
The Student Development Centre (SDC) can help you rework your resume to show the transferable skills you've gained from your previous part-time jobs that are applicable to the field related job you're after.
Involvement and roles in other UWO clubs and charitable organizations will definitely show your social social and well-rounded character. Just look for booths at the UCC Atrium during Clubs Week and Volunteer Week or check out the USC Clubs page.

Along with these resources available around campus, ASUA also tries to organize resume and interview workshops to help students with job search targeted at the statistical and actuarial fields. Check out the events calendar for dates and times.
