A little information on who we are and what exactly we do in and around the university, the city and the country.

Since its founding, students from the University of Western Ontario have played a significant role in the rise of STAND across Canada. For more on the history of STAND, click here.

STAND Western is a part of a national youth based anti-genocide group, working to mobilize Canadian citizens and politicians to take immediate, effective, and serious action against the genocide in Darfur, and to make such a response an important part of Canadian foreign policy. As an organization, we work to provide UWO students and London residents with the tools and resources they need to make a difference. We coordinate events throughout the school year to educate and advocate, and sustain an ongoing awareness campaign.

In addition, STAND Western has expanded its mandate to focus on community initiatives; we are involved in efforts to help newcomer and refugee communities with settlement and transition issues. During the 2009-2010 school year, STAND Western is continuing, in partnership with the African Students Association at Western, an after-school tutoring program at three London Public Library locations. We are also involved in the recruiting of volunteers for other meaningful initiatives.
