Elections Western is a non partisan office of the University Students’ Council (USC) responsible for the administrations of By-Law 2. Elections Western administers one of the most comprehensive range of electoral legislation among Canadian universities.
The Chief Returning Coordinator
The Chief Returning Coordinator (CRO) is responsible for the fair and impartial administration of USC elections, and referendums, under the authority of By-law 2.
The Chief Returning Coordinator is responsible for publicizing:
- Call for nominations
- Announcement of Candidates for USC elections
- Announcement of the time and date for on-line balloting
- Announcement of official results for USC elections
The Elections Committee
The elections committee shall be composed of:
- Chief Returning Officer, ex-officio as chairperson, Voting
- Communications Officer, ex-officio as vice chair, Voting
- Deputy Returning Commissioner, ex-officio, Voting
- Faculty member, Non-voting
- Where possible this person shall be drawn from the faculty of law, and shall serve as an advisor
- Six students of the University at least one of whom is a first year student, and at least one from any affiliate, Voting
The elections committee shall:
- Oversee the spring and fall election in accordance with provisions in by-law 2
- Develop and maintain a clear set of criteria and considerations to be used by the committee when making decisions relating to elections;
- Make recommendations to council on all matters including by-law amendments, that related to the elections.
- Not seek office in an election, support any candidate, or endorse a position in a referendum administered by the elections committee during her term.
- Failure to comply with the above section iv will result in the immediate removal from the elections committee.
- Seek the USC President’s advice on electoral matters.
