Environmental Organizations

The Council of Canadians - Canada's largest citizens' organization. They're focus is not exclusively environmental, but their push for "progressive policies" includes clean water and energy initiatives. They have sections providing information on these issues within the site.
Earth Day Canada - EDC helps Canadians of all ages achieve local solutions while improving the environment. It's not much of an informational resource, but it provides good links, and information on how you can help out with some of their projects.
GreenPeace - Easily the most famous environmentalist group, they were founded 35 years ago, long before most others appreciated the seriousness of environmental issues. They also run a very nice website. They do a great job keeping up with environmental news, and they offer ways for you to help take action towards their wide variety of initiatives.
The Green Party - The party has yet to earn a chair in parliament, although that's more a product of our election system than it is a reflection of how legitimate a choice the party is. The Green Party has a very comprehensive platform, and presents capable candidates. When the next election rolls around have a look at the website and give them serious consideration.
London Coalition Against Pesticides - Pesticides are a big issue, (see EnviroTips page for more). This site offers recent news, and a nice set of resources on the topic if you're interested in learning about it.
Ontario Nature - Ontario Nature protects and restores natural habitats through research, education and conservation, connecting thousands of individuals and communities with nature. The site has information on how to volunteer, as well as a "resource centre" linking to lots of information. Ontario Nature is also particularly special, because it publishes an award winning magazine, for which our very own GROW project team is featured in the August 2006 edition (subscription is free to members).
Facilities Management at UWO - EnviroWestern has been in contact with FM trying to push recycling initiatives along. It is good to check out the site if you have any questions about Western's waste management policies.
Post-Carbon London - A group of local citizens who are working to reduce London's dependency on fossil fuels. Their website provides on how to join, and details information about upcoming events.
RCEN - For more than thirty years, the Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN) has been facilitating networking between environmental organisations and others who share its mandate - To Protect the Earth and Promote Ecologically Sound Ways of Life. The RCEN works directly with concerned citizens and organisations striving to protect, preserve and restore the environment.
Regional Social Forum - A local organization that strives to bring London's environmentalists together. If you're interested in stepping up your green efforts to the next level, have a look at these guys.
University Leaders for a Sustainable Future - An international group whose mission is to make sustainability a major focus at campuses everywhere. The site itself is thin on content, although it does provide some good links on the issue of campus sustainability, including an explanation of the Tallories Declaration, which has participating universities make pledges towards sustainability in Kyoto-like fashion, .
The UBC Campus Sustainability Office - The University of British Columbia is the self-proclaimed leader in campus sustainability. The provide a lot of information on the subject, and have a number of good links.
World Resources Institute - A great, and reputable organization with a predictably wide focus on world issues, primarily of an environmental nature. It's tough to locate specific topics within the site's structure, but once you do, it offers a huge wealth of information.
World Wildlife Fund - WWF is the world leader on the front of wildlife protection. This is an issue that seems separate from the environmental ones our club focuses on, although they are in fact very intertwined. The state of wildlife is a very strong reflection of the state of our environment, so what's good for the environment is good for wildlife and vice-versa. Plus, pandas are wicked cute.
