Students at Western were angered this week in 1939 after learning the provincial government cut $25,000 from the school's annual grant.

"Throughout the campus students and professors alike are indignant over what they believe to be the most serious blow in years," the paper stated.

A mass meeting was held in Convocation Hall and between lectures students gathered in halls to listen to stump speeches. Signs were posted around the school and plans were underway for the entire student body to march en masse to Labatt Park, where a consolidated demonstration would be held.

As well, 2,000 petitions stating the government was unjustified in its cuts were printed for circulation throughout the city for Londoners to sign.
