Education Party horrible idea
Re: Party of one, March 27
To the Editor:
It's a damn good thing that I'm graduating this year. After all, I would hate to have to go through the process of withholding my USC fees and my social science levy.
Why such a drastic action? I guess because it's the only way these two thick-headed student bodies can get it through their heads that the Education Party of Canada is a stupid idea.
Fine. If you want to have a party, that's your democratic right. However, not with my money!!!! I'm totally aghast that a total of $16,000 ($13,000 from the USC and $3,000 from the SSSC) is being put towards the party.
Obviously the EPC has no hope of winning a riding. It would be obvious then that this is merely a PR job. Look, this is what's going to happen. The EPC will get a lot of publicity in school papers. Ironically, most papers will be shut down for the summer (when I assume the election will take place). My five years in mainstream media (I worked at a radio station and helped edit a small local paper) have taught me one big thing. This issue will get its day in the public spotlight, then it will be shoved aside.
If you really want money, do what the other parties do. Run a fundraiser. If students really give a crap about the EPC, they can donate themselves, instead of someone else deciding for them.
