Opinions is the editorial heart of the paper; it contains the editorial, letters to the editor, plus regular columns by Gazettestaff, academics and other students and faculty.

The content of editorials at The Gazette are hashed out at a daily editorial meetings, during which ed board members discuss and decide on the paper's stance on controversial, current issues. Though the issues are almost always directly campus-related, The Gazette also sometimes tackles issues off-campus.

Writers can be involved in the opinions section once they have written some news stories – in a column entitled "Reporter's Notebook." The Notebook is a look behind the scenes of a news story; since it is an opinion piece the writer can let loose and tell the story through her own eyes rather than through the objective eyes of a reporter.
