The best of Mustang sports '97

MUSTANG OF THE YEAR

1. Guy Schultz (cross-country)
OUA and CIAU champion, CIAU MVP.
2. Sara Nathanson (women's soccer)
Led OUA with 13 goals and named an all-Canadian for a fourth straight season.
3. Roger Dunbrack (football)
Led Western with eight sacks and was a nominee for CIAU lineman of the year.
Honourable mention: Angela Nobes (women's basketball), Luca Mancuso (men's soccer).


MUSTANG TEAM OF THE YEAR

1. Men's rugby
Won first OUA rugby championship in 20 years.
2. Women's basketball
Finished third in OUA and in CIAU after being ranked No. 1 for most of the season.
3. Cheerleaders
Won 13th straight OUA title plus an NCAA meet.
Honourable mention: Men's soccer, Track and field.

MUSTANG COACH OF THE YEAR

1. Gerry Slattery (men's rugby)
Coached the Mustangs to a provincial title.
2. Bob Vigars (cross-country/men's track and field)
Coached men's cross-country team to a second-place CIAU finish and the men's track and field squad to a third-place national finish.
3. Sherri Kitching-Fowler (women's soccer)
Led Mustangs to an undefeated 8-0-4 season and a first-place OUA West finish.
Honourable mention: Rock Bassacco (men's soccer), Dave Preston (men's volleyball).
