TIME WARP

Western broke with tradition in 1953 by actually going out and voting for the 1953-54 University Students' Council president.

In what had been a record year for voter turnout, 76 per cent of students cast ballots for the election, The Gazette reported Feb. 13, 1953.

Leading the way were the women from Brescia College, where 98 per cent of the students voted. In second place were the medical students at 90 per cent.

However, the two largest faculties on campus, arts and science, came dead last with only 52 per cent of their students voting.
