Western's graduate students will have to fork over a little more money to their council next year.
At the Society of Graduate Students annual general meeting last night, the council approved a $2 increase to $42 for full members and $27.50 from associate members, who are part-time graduate students, in the fees collected by SOGS.
Rudolf Czkella, SOGS finance committee chair, said the increase was necessary to meet the costs of programs implemented by SOGS over the past year. "The fee has actually gone down," he said, adding in 1992 grad students paid $56.88 while last year they paid $40.
In addition to the $2 increase this year, the committee proposed a $2-a-year increase over the next four years to a peak of $48.
The total amount the council will receive next year is $48 per student, as SOGS will use the existing Grad Club levy to make up the difference.
