Gazette Sports: Sexually biased?

Re: Women's curling coverage, Jan. 23

To the Editor:

I would like to thank and congratulate The Gazette for its coverage of men's varsity curling in Waterloo three weekends ago. Unfortunately, there wasn't even one single word mentioned about the women's team which competed at the same bonspiel as the men. The women were very successful and came away with a 2-2 record after a number of close games, including one that came down to the last rock.

As a member of this team, it is very upsetting to me that The Gazette did not make one mention of our hard work or, to my knowledge, make any effort to find out the outcome of our weekend's efforts.

Women are just as much athletes as men are. We train as hard, practice as much and make as many sacrifices as the men. Is it too much to ask that we get the same recognition as the men?

I hope that in the future The Gazette will attempt to report the efforts of all of Western's athletes.
