An X-ray team was moving into the arts building to conduct the annual search for unhealthy lungs in the student body, The Gazette stated this week in 1956.

The chest X-rays were free and compulsory on campus. "Any person who does not appear for examination at the scheduled time will be required to undergo an X-ray elsewhere at his own expense," the paper said.

The Ontario Department of Health examined 2,277 chests at Western the previous year and found that 0.03 per cent of the student body had active pulmonary tuberculosis.
