Preparations were booming for the University College Ball, The Gazette published on this day in 1954.

Tickets were $5 a couple and the theme of the dance was a big secret until the night of the event.

"The committee says that some special gimmick is afoot for the night of the dance at intermission time. What that is, too, will have to remain a secret."

There was excitement about the coronation festivities of the Queen of University College. The Queen, a student nominated by her peers, had to have a B-average and participate in at least two extra-curricular activities. "In short, she is a very special person."

Ten candidates were chosen by a selection committee and the winner would be announced at the Ball.
