National sport out in cold

Re: Gazette Sports: Sexually biased?, Feb. 18

To the Editor:

I just want to let everyone – especially the Colleen Scrimgers – out there know what it's like to not only not get published in the student newspaper, but also to not get any recognition from the university.

I play lacrosse for Western. Unfortunately, due to reasons outside our control, my teammates and I are not allowed to be called the University of Western Ontario lacrosse team. There is also a women's lacrosse team that doesn't get any recognition.

Last time I checked lacrosse was still Canada's national summer sport. God forbid if those politically-correct yuppie types in the athletic department cut money from the ever-so-popular water polo team or the so eloquent synchronized swimming team. It is unfortunate that you received no recognition from The Gazette. It is too bad that the national summer sport gets no recognition from anyone.
