A four-person committee met this week in 1975 to work out a constitution for a new Arts Student Union.

Ed Holder, who started the movement for the union, said such a body was necessary to cut through the red tape that clubs from the faculty encountered when applying to the University Students' Council for funds.

All arts students paid a part of their tuition to support an Arts Student Council but the body did not actually exist for some years so the money went directly into a USC fund.

"Arts students need to be represented by their own body and they need to have their interest financed," Holder said.
