Today in 1935, The Gazette reported Canadian students would stage "one of the greatest nation-wide demonstrations of peace ever seen in Canada."

There will be peace demonstrations of various kinds in all the universities of Canada, sea to sea. For today is Peace Day and the students of Canada are going to show the world what they think of peace and war, The Gazette wrote.

In order for Western to observe Peace Day, all lectures were cancelled between 11 o'clock and noon. Thus everybody was given the opportunity to attend the Peace Day service in Convocation Hall, which the Student Peace Movement had asked the International Relations Society to undertake.
