Advice for writers

Re: Didn't get it, Nov.11

To the Editor:
Wake up Wendy! The letter to which you took offense was a form of SARCASM.

I'm positive that in no way does Allan Burge believe The Gazette should focus on "white heterosexual males." The person to whom you should be directing your comments and to whom Mr. Burge was responding, wanted to know why there has been so much coverage of gay issues and wondered if surely there are other news-worthy events that should receive attention instead. Had you looked past the end of your nose and read between the lines, you would have seen that Mr. Burge did not agree with the letter to which he responded.

So, to all Gazette readers: read a little more closely! The reactions to the article in this section, "A Modest Proposal to Immodest Acts," were quite defensive. That letter too, was a form of SATIRE and anyone taking the time to understand the model upon which it was based would have realized it was not to be taken literally.

It is better to have people think you are fool than to open your mouth and prove it.
