Thanks to funding from the University Students' Council, the Western chess team will be able to participate in the Inter-University Team Chess Championships for the first time this weekend. Aaron Finkenzeller, team captain, is excited about the opportunity to compete and optimistic about the team's performance. "We've got lots of enthusiasm and experience this year."

The six-member team of Finkenzeller, John Berger, Carl Ehrman, Rob Lapierre, Ian Martin, and David Pak will be representing Western in the team competition. "We have a very strong team this year. I'm hoping we're going to place in the top three," said Finkenzeller.

With individual games taking as long as four hours, this competition is not for the faint of heart. The two-day championship will be held at the William G. Davis Computer Research Centre, Nov. 15 and 16 at the University of Waterloo.
