Bloody misconception

Re:Quirks & Smirks, Oct.15

To the Editor:
Chris Fread suggests in his comment about blood donation that it is possible to contract something by donating blood. Unfortunately, this remains a very common public misconception and is one of the unfortunate fallouts of the current media frenzy of this issue. There is NO risk to a blood donor, the potential risk is with the recipient of the blood product.
