LETTERS

Think before you...

Re: Modest proposal about immodest acts, Oct.9

To the Editor:
Alright folks, there's been a lot of discussion about this particular letter in recent weeks and I think it's about time I bring a little order from chaos here.

I remember sitting in the friendly confines of Talbot College and reading Dr. Carroll's letter. I must admit, I found the article rather amusing. Why? Because I believe that I interpreted it in the spirit it was intended: SATIRE. From what I read, it seemed like Carroll had written a very clever satire which showed how we, as heterosexuals, can be hypocritical and any material (including the Bible) can be interpreted to mean whatever the reader desires.

From the rebuttals that have been floating in, it seems as though people have missed the point. I think all those who objected so vigorously to his article need to sit down, take a deep breath and try something new: READING THOROUGHLY. I've found that literacy has come in mighty handy in university.

I also have another suggestion for those wishing to put pen to paper and begin expressing their views in our beloved Gazette: THINK BEFORE YOU WRITE. You may find things come out a little clearer when you spend some time contemplating matters. Have a pleasant day!
