Secret ballot good

Re: Botched, Oct. 24

To the Editor:
I would like to respond to the so-called "hide-and-seek" voting used by the USC. The issue we were discussing was the removal of the USC Saugeen-Maitland Hall representative and, as such, it was an emotion-filled debate. I fully supported voting by secret ballot and if another member hadn't requested it, I would have done so myself. The secret ballot was not done to cover our actions and opinions, it was done so each councillor would not be swayed by the decisions of others. The secret ballot enabled each member to vote responsibly and to truly represent his or her constituency; as we were elected to do.
