Nothing wrong here

Re: Football is not that important, Nov. 26

To the Editor:

In response to Ed King's letter on the non-importance of university football – why does Mr. King feel it necessary to show off his fancy vocabulary in order to criticize our beloved 'Stangs, especially after their amazing season?

It doesn't take a genius to see the pride (and funding) the football team brings to Western each year. Just because football isn't Ed's thing, doesn't mean he should expect everyone else to have the same opinion! And another thing, how can he call football the by-product of Nazi propaganda when it has its origins and is most popular in the United States, the most elevated, peace-promoting society of the free world.

Both of us played a little high school football and we both know the difference between acceptable initiation rituals and more violent hazing. And what's so wrong about a little healthy male-bonding anyway? Haven't you heard, Mr. King, of the saying "what doesn't kill you will only make you tougher."

We for one, feel the football team represented our school with pride and glory this year and are looking forward to an even better season next year.
