Western Round-up


The Western curling teams travelled to the Waterloo West sectional this weekend to compete against four division rivals. The women's team came up with a solid finish tying for first place with three victories, only dropping one match to fellow first-place finishers, Brock, 8-6. On the other hand, the men had a tough go of it, finishing in last place at 1-2. Laurier took first on the men's side.


The Western swim team had a great road trip on Saturday while the Brock Badgers, came away with victories in both the men's and women's competitions. Solid performances were put in by Amy Bartoch who won both the 50-metre and 400-metre freestyle, as well as the 400-metre free relay. Kelly Haggins took first in the 50-metre freestyle as well as the 50-metre backstroke.

On the men's side, Chris Elliot won the 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke and the 400-metre individual medley. He was rewarded by being named OUA athlete of the week. Andrew Monroe finished first in the 100 and 200-metre fly and 50-metre free. Overall, the women won 161-103 while the men won convincingly 131-76.
