HIV in Canada

- As of December 1997, there have been 15,528 reported cases of AIDS in Canada
- When that number is adjusted to include the number of cases that have not been reported, it is estimated to be approximately 20,000
- Up to December 1997, it is estimated that 41,681 individuals in Canada have tested positive for HIV
- In comparison to the 1996, there was a 54.1 per cent decrease in the number of reported cases in Canada for 1997
- Females now account for 14.1 per cent of annual AIDS diagnoses
