The tradition of drawing prominent speakers to Western has continued with the establishment of the Huron College Canadian Club.
The club is one of 52 Canadian clubs in Canada which bring famous Canadian personalities into cities across the country and now to Western, to speak about Canadian issues.
The establishment of the as the first university branch will give speakers the chance to "speak with university students and get a youth perspective," said Chris Hady, club president.
There will be a booth set up today at the University Community Centre's CentreSpot which will be selling memberships for $25. Members will receive discount rates to all events. However, ticket sales will still be open to non-members.
The first scheduled speaker is journalist Peter Jennings on Oct. 29, to be followed by former Ontario Premier Bob Rae on Nov. 25, Prime Minister Jean Chretien on Jan. 11 and actor Dan Akroyd on March 15.
