Unethical interviewing hurts reliability

Equal experience at the affiliates

Equal experience at the affiliates

Re: Shooting blanks, Feb. 9

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter on behalf of the 41 other King's College Students' Council members and its constituents in response to the Feb. 9 centre spread rating the University Students' Council presidential candidates.

We were disappointed with the way that The Gazette concluded that experiences at King's College, an affiliated college, are limited. Why do our experiences not count? Just because these experiences do not mainly occur on the grounds of the main campus, does that not mean we are not qualified or capable of representing Western students on behalf of the USC.

As any affiliate, we deal with an inferior attitude towards us everyday. We are constantly having to justify our academics and our place within the Western community. These misconceptions have now started to trivialize our involvement across campus. Going to an affiliate gives everyone the chance to become involved in an equal or greater extent than at main campus.

At King's, we have two students which sit on our board of directors, we have 13 students that sit on the King's version of the Senate and we have five students that sit on the USC. With our students in these positions, we still deal with all of the same problems, issues and concerns that face every student that goes to Western, not just King's.

I, as president of the students' council at King's, take extreme offence to the fact that The Gazette classifies our experiences as being limited to King's. That is not the point. It is not important where these experiences take place, it is important that these experiences are undertaken and are done with the issues of all of the students in mind. We represent the students of King's across campus, not just at King's.
