The Western men's volleyball team travelled to Winnipeg over the weekend for the Asics Challenge but unlike the sub zero weather, the Mustangs were both hot and cold throughout the tournament schedule.

During round robin play the team was only able to handle Dalhousie 3-2 (15-12, 7-15, 15-6, 10-15, 15-12) while Indiana-Purdue/Fort Wayne (3-0, 15-1, 15-8, 15-8), Manitoba (3-0, 15-12, 15-12, 15-5) and Winnipeg (3-1, 15-11, 15-9, 11-15, 15-13) proved to be to hard to handle.

The Mustangs took revenge in the bronze medal game against Winnipeg with a 3-1 (15-9, 12-15, 15-7, 15-12) drubbing.

The tournament MVP was awarded to Javier Escobar of Indiana-Purdue/Fort Wayne University while Chris Gisslen and Ryan Perotte (Indiana-Purdue/Fort Wayne), Ian Taylor (Winnipeg), Bryan Enns and Steve Brinkman (Manitoba) and Andrew Brunton (Western) were named tournament all-stars.
