Men's Basketball

With the regular season this weekend, the men got the ball rolling while hosting their annual Purple and White Tournament with dominating victories over McGill (94-67) and Laval (89-54). Nat Graham was named tournament co-MVP with Waterloo's Mano Watsa. Graham was also named to the all-star team with teammates Micah Bourdeau and Jimmy Grozelle.

The women struggled against tough competition over the holiday season during back-to-back tournaments. At the New Year's Tournament in Waterloo, Western took care of York 80-54 before losing to Winnipeg 64-56. Previously, the women fell apart at the New Year's Festival in Toronto, losing all three games to Calgary (73-67), Victoria (70-50) and Winnipeg (68-62).

Western took bronze at the Sands Invitational in Saskatchewan on Jan. 3 by knocking off York 3-0 (15-12, 15-10, 15-9). Alberta defeated them in the semifinal 3-0 (15-1, 15-2, 15-3) before going on to win the tournament.
