Re: "Symmering over the hockey field" Sept. 16

To the Editor:

I would like to say thanks for giving the field hockey team the credit it deserves.

Field hockey is not one of the most popular sports, but it is for those who are dedicated and have a great deal of sportsmanship like Western's team captain, Jenn Symmes.

Field hockey is relatively unknown and usually not introduced to athletes until high school. I started the sport in high school after attending a clinic taught by Mustang players and was intrigued by the skill and camaraderie of field hockey teams.

A majority of today's players have gathered their skills and knowledge of the game from growing clubs within our communities and from the support of other admirable individuals like Jen. Western players have been a key link to local communities in establishing the sport.

I was disappointed to hear the team will have no home games this season. Hopefully, this team will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and the sport's tradition in the future.

I hope you continue to support the team and recognize it not only for it's unique attire, but for its dedicated players, their skills and their contribution to both Western's and London's sporting communities.
