Re: "Punished by silence" Sept. 16

To the Editor:

As an alumnus, I have many great memories of Western – friends, frosh week, homecoming, the faculty of engineering and lots of parties.

However, none of those good memories include the members of Western's senior administration. Suspending four students for throwing water balloons? Completely inappropriate.

Their ongoing crusade to remove the "party school" reputation and squeeze every last drop of fun out of Western is completely misguided. If you look at the big problems and challenges that Western is facing, none of them are going to be solved by suspending those engineers.

I call on VPŠadministration Peter Mercer to reconsider his ridiculous decision and re-instate those students. I call on the Dean of engineering to admit those students and ignore the suspension. And, I call on the Board of Governors to institute a VP-students (like many other institutions have) because Western's current senior administration (for lack of a better word) suck at representing students.

Unfortunately, I fear that Dr. Mercer will ignore my plea. Why? Because I do not trust him to do the right thing. He has lied to me and in my presence to the Board of Governors.

There is a lot more I could say about this man and I would love to call him names, but I won't – because I wouldn't put it past him to sue me.

And on a completely unrelated matter, is "crapweasel" a real word?
