Re: "Racy Western" April 4

To the Editor:

I would like to comment on the opinions of Ms. Wong and Mr. Black.

As a Jewish graduate student from Montréal, Québec, I cannot make any comments regarding fraternities or debating groups. I would never join one since I am not interested in being part of this.

However I would like to bring to your attention that as a Jewish grad student in a program with only three Jews, I feel that Ms. Wong and Mr. Black are clearly not as educated as they claim to be.

Being Jewish is both a religion and a nationality. I think that they are comparing their religions with Judaism but one cannot make this comparison. Judaism is a complete identity and this is why some Jews have a stronger connection to planting trees in Israel than to contributing to a charity or a cause in Canada. I am Jewish first, then Canadian.

To Ms. Wong and Mr. Black, it is great that you are interested in the Jewish faith, but maybe you should take courses in Jewish studies before making what I believe to be ignorant comments.
