New year, new look

The University of Western Ontario is changing its image for the year 2000.

According to Ted Garrard, Western's VP-external, the university is changing their graphic image from the coat of arms to the University College tower.

"The university will still use the coat of arms, but the general public has a stronger response to the university tower. It is a more recognizable symbol to the public and to the alumni."

The change was indirectly related to the celebration of Western's 150th anniversary, Garrard said. "Western is required to do some heavy recruiting of students in the next couple of years – we are attempting to create an identity of Western that is recognizable to students."
