New linguistics program added

Western students interested in foreign languages can take advantage of a new program offered by the faculties of Arts and Social Science.

The new linguistics program is being offered to students who have completed their first year and allows students to do a minor in linguistics or combine it with another Arts or Social Science subject , said Jeff Tennant, a French professor.

This opportunity is the result of efforts by language professors David Heap and Chet Creider, who worked with other faculty to combine existing courses from a variety of disciplines, including Anthropology, English, French, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Russian and Spanish. In the future, lingusitics may be offered as a single honours program and include electives in other faculties, Tennant explained.
