Western showed why it has one of the premier basketball programs in the province as four Mustang men were named Ontario University Athletics All-Stars this week.

Guards Jim Grozelle and Chedo Ndur were named to the First and Second teams respectively, while forward Andy Kwiatkowski joins Grozelle on the First team. Rookie forward, Nick Salomons was also named to the five man All-Rookie squad.

With the depth that Western has, many members could have been named to the All-Star team. But, according to Grozelle, only a certain number can be mentioned.

"I was surprised to be named to the [All-Star] team. I thought everyone who was named from Western were certainly deserving of it. There could have been a number of Western players who could have made it, but the league only allows a certain amount of players to be chosen from each club," he said.

Kwiatkowski said he also felt that many of his Western teammates could have been mentioned to the team, but has high remarks for those who were.

"We're such a team oriented club that anyone could have been named to the All-Star team. It's good to see that Jim and Chedo are finally getting the respect they deserve in this league. Jim is such a skilled and smart athlete and Chedo is a pure workhorse. Nick comes off the bench and puts up great numbers for us – he's definitely an up and coming star," Kwiatkowski said.

Although the recognition is a nice gesture on the part of the league and coaches, Western is busy preparing for their upcoming playoff games. The Mustang all-stars see it as a compliment towards the entire team when so many individuals are honoured.

"The All-Star mention is a definite bonus for me as a player and for the team as a whole. It's great to see so many players on the All-Star roster from our team," Kwiatkowski said.
