Damn those Yankees!

By Ryan Dixon

It's been almost a lifetime since the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series, but that's no reason to turn your back on the annual fall classic.

Baseball's playoffs are upon us again and with the record tying Seattle Mariners and the red hot Oakland A's both in the hunt, this could be the year the Yankees get knocked off – or not.

(all division series are a best of five format)

American League Division Series

Oakland vs. New York

Believe me, I don't want to do this. I really want to say the A's young arms and booming bats are going to be enough to beat the big, bad Bronx bombers, but it's just not true. Clemens, Hernandez, Pettitte, Mussina, Rivera – good night.

Yankees in Four

Seattle vs. Cleveland

The Mariners tied the record for wins in a single season with 116, set by the Chicago Cubs in 1906. Sounds good and all, but following the lead of the Cubs is probably a bad omen when you're trying to win a World Series.

Cleveland in Five

National League Division Series

Atlanta vs. Houston

Remember back in grade one when your teacher would ask the class on the first day of October how you know it's autumn and the standard answers were leaves falling, Thanksgiving and Halloween coming – add Atlanta Braves choking to the list.

Houston in Five

St. Louis vs. Arizona

True, the Cardinals have "Big Mac" and a few other guys who can pound the ball, but trying to beat Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson in a best of five series is a little like starting to attend lectures in March – you're really behind the eight ball.

Arizona in Four
