Figuring out how to go about volunteering abroad can be a difficult task. The Gazette has made it easier for you by providing the first steps in finding the right program.

Start at the Student Development Centre. The SDC has information about different programs, said Jenna Dawson, international work program assistant at the SDC. "We can help point you in the right direction," she said.

Students interested in being a part of the team from the Global Youth Network can give Courtney Stephens a call at (519) 858-0819 or Angele Bibeau at (519) 642-4149.

As well, the Web contains ample information on volunteer organizations. Here are some sites which should keep you busy.

www.acdi-cida.gc.ca – The Canadian International Development Agency's website provides links to all the programs it funds and many have volunteer opportunities.

www.charityvillage.com – Contains postings from volunteer organizations across the world. There are many types of programs, ranging in length and type of work involved.

www.volunteerinternational.org – International Volunteer Programs Association contains information and links to hundreds of volunteer associations in North America, most of them American agencies.

www.vfp.org – Volunteers for Peace International Workcamps. Another United States website with many short-term opportunities.
