Consumer orgy

Re: "More Clinique for your purse?," Oct. 24

To the Editor:

I am appalled at Oliver Williams' attempt to equate criticisms of capitalism with support of the objectives of terrorism. This is a grave oversimplification.

We must be aware of consumer culture to escape from it enough to maintain any sense of the world around us, recognize injustice and work against it.

Unless we do this, we risk becoming imperceptive and callous. We risk unknowingly fuelling the rage of the disenfranchised and violated worldwide.

Are we to recline in a consumerist orgy while our global majority lives in material poverty?
