The Western community worked to respond quickly and calmly to students' needs following yesterday's terrorist attacks in the northeastern United States.

"We are shocked and devastated by news reports from the United States," said acting president Roma Harris in a statement issued by Western. "We want to provide whatever help we can to the Western community and we will continue to monitor events as they occur," she said.

Here's a brief sketch of reactions and responses across campus and the city to yesterday's terrorist attack:

- Classes were cancelled at the Richard Ivey School of Business.

- The University Students' Council made telephones available for students to get in contact with friends or family and board members were available for support throughout the day.

- USC and UWO Chaplains' Services will hold a Service of Remembrance on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. in the UCC atrium .

- London Airport was closed all day.

- London Police assured area services continued, specifically transportation routes affected by the closure of the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor.

- The Thames Valley School Board District assured students they will be safe in their homes, schools and neighbourhoods.

- London City Hall organized a gathering at noon today to remember yesterday's victims.
