Re: Making History, Sept. 13

To the Editor:

I was sickened to read the letter "Making History" that appeared in Thursday's Gazette.

To anyone, like the author of Thursday's letter, who has longed to be part of history the way our parents experienced the John F. Kennedy assassination or the moon landing, I'm glad you finally got your wish.

Go ahead, brag to your grandchildren about how you were alive when the World Trade Center collapsed, compare stories with your friends of who began watching CNN the earliest and above all, make sure you let everyone know how cool you feel now that you are part of living history.

But at the end of the day, ask yourself if it was worth it. Was the loss of countless human lives worth making you feel you finally have a place in our media-created history? If so, go ahead and keep on bragging. If not, then keep your comments to yourself.
