Pornography. Porno. Porn.

Anyway you say it, somehow it grabs people's attention.

This quasi-mainstream industry plays on the imaginations of many, yet it remains out of the spectrum of popular media, destined to exist only in the bedrooms of faithful viewers.

Until now.

The Arts & Entertainment section of The Gazette would like you to meet Porn-O-Plenty – a regular feature to discuss the latest releases from the seedy underworld of porn.

This luscious industry is estimated to gross over a billion dollars each year in the United States alone. Whether you agree with it or not, it's important to shed some light on this neglected topic to both entertain and educate.

The first time an individual enters a pornography store can be overwhelming. The absolute magnitude of naked flesh that seems to leap off the displays can make it hard to pick a video that's right for you.

Whether renting with a partner or not, it can take a few tries to find a style or type best suited to your tastes and pleasures.

In order to minimize mistakes, ask the employees for advice. Avoid buying a video at a dark, inconspicuous corner store.

Instead, head to where the knowledgeable, friendly staff are. They know why you're there and have no intention of teasing you. This is by far the easiest and most comfortable way to obtain first hand knowledge about porn releases and selection offered.

Once you have viewed a couple movies, it's important to note the actors, actresses and directors names to learn who you like. Performers often play the same types of roles repeatedly, allowing you to get an idea of what to expect.

Directors control the feel and flow of a video and, with time, you will spot a directors' quirks and styles. People like Max Hardcore enjoy vilifying women by including things like the stretching of their orifices. On the other hand, Candida Royalle, a performer turned producer/director, makes films with a more romantic slant that are generally less graphic in their depictions.

Check reviews for information. If you find a reviewer you agree with, it will help guide you to movies you will enjoy. The Adult Movie Review Index (http://amri.iafd.com) is a great place to find reviews. There you can obtain access to over 4,500 reviews, grouped both alphabetically and by the reviewer's name.

Finally, find a distributor you like as each has their own feel. Vivid usually release high quality stuff, while others such as Extreme and Zane focus strictly on hardcore slamming matches.

These are a few suggestions to help you on your way to an enjoyable porn experience. Like everything else, knowledge comes with experience.

Just don't tell your mom where you got the idea.
