I am proud to know students who volunteered their time and energy to be sophs this year. They were a model of care and made Orientation Week inordinately safer for new students. A number of the sophs I know are still catching up on sleep from that exhausting first week.
Usually when people donate their time and energy so generously we don't penalize them by charging them $200 for the privilege. In fact, we usually thank them.
So, thanks to the sophs of 2002: you made me proud to be a member of the Western community. No thanks to the University Students' Council who charged the sophs for their generosity.
