Kickin' horsey ass

LONDON (AP) – Rock of Gibraltar, winner of a record seven straight Group 1 races in Europe, will enter next month's Breeders' Cup Mile at Arlington Park.

The three-year-old, owned by Manchester United soccer manager Sir Alex Ferguson and trained by Aidan O'Brien, won the Prix du Moulin at Longhamp in Paris on Sunday.

The win broke the previous record of six straight Group 1 victories by Mill Reef in 1971-72.

"It doesn't matter whether they go fast or slow, he can quicken up off any pace," O'Brien said. "He's a truly great horse."

O'Brien said the main target is the Breeders' Cup Mile on Oct. 26, with the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Sept. 28 also a possibility.

British bookmakers Coral list Rock Of Gibraltar as the 6-4 favourite for the Breeders' Cup Mile.

Rock of Gibraltar's other six victories were in the Grand Criterium at Longchamp, Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, Irish 2,000 Guineas at The Curragh, St. James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, and the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
