VC donates pocket change

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Toronto Raptors star Vince Carter will donate more than $1 million to help his high school pay for a new athletic centre bearing his name.

Carter's contribution will help Daytona Beach Mainland High School build the athletic centre as part of a $40-million school replacement project expected to be completed by 2005.

The new centre will feature expanded facilities and serve as home for Carter's local youth summer basketball camp, deputy superintendent Tim Huth said.

Carter led Mainland to the state basketball championship as a senior in 1995.
