Know all the facts

Re: "Peace starts on Campus," Feb. 11

To the Editor:

It seems that the fact sheet on the State of Israel that was distributed on Israel Day pissed off a lot of students. [One] student even labelled the distribution of these sheets as "cowardly." Well, the sheet gives well-documented facts and references to International Law. It was simply a way to show some of the true facts that not everybody knows about the conflict in the Middle East.

Israel Day was a celebration of Israel, but at the same time, it was a day to remember the occupation, the collective punishment and the daily humiliation of Palestinians. This is a fact that not everyone is aware of. Now, is showing these facts considered to be "cowardly"? After all, who's ashamed of showing the truth?

I believe that peace starts on campus, and it does. However, if we keep hiding facts, we would then be dreaming of a fake peace that has no meaning. Achieving peace in the Middle East doesn't seem to be impossible and we can even achieve it in our lifetime.
