Showing support for the profs

A motion will be presented to the University Students' Council tonight, which calls for the council to support the University of Western Ontario Faculty Association in their current contract negotiations with administration.

According to Media, Information and Technoculture Students' Council president Toben Alexander, the motion calls for the USC to produce a letter of endorsement for UWOFA to be published in Western News, The Gazette and The London Free Press.

"The reason I've decided to bring this forward is because of the fact that, as undergraduate students, we have the most to lose if there is a strike," Alexander said.

"What UWOFA is fighting for is beneficial to students," he added, noting the faculty's demand to increase their numbers will only benefit students by decreasing the faculty-student ratio.

"[Society of Graduate Students] and other organizations on campus have already issued endorsements," Alexander noted. "I just feel that it's imperative that such a motion be brought to the table quickly."

Alexander said he believed the USC's endorsement and support of UWOFA will help negotiations.
