A memorial will be held today in honour of those who lost their lives in the Columbia space shuttle disaster this past weekend.
The memorial is being put on by the Jewish Students' Union, in honour of the seven astronauts, and specifically the one Israeli astronaut Ilan Roman who died, said Paul Rakowski, president of the JSU.
A local rabbi will be reading prayers during the ceremony, he said.
"[Ilan] was a beacon of hope during the troubling times Israelis have faced over the last two and a half years," Rakowski said.
The memorial will feature traditional prayers to offer respect during times of mourning, he explained.
The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. on the Concrete Beach in front of the University Community Centre, he added.
