Purple Pipe: Rob Nigro

Niru Somayajula/Gazette
THEY CAN TAKE MY SQUASH RACKET, BUT THEY CAN NEVER TAKE MY PIPE. Western men's squash player Robert Nigro looks to notch team championship 20 this weekend.

The Purple Pipe has strayed from the beaten path of mainstream sports this week and fallen into the hands of Rob Nigro, the best damn squash player in Ontario. Period.

Nigro's quest for the Pipe began last weekend at the Ontario University Athletics individual championships of men's squash at Brock University in St. Catharines. He faced fellow teammate Andrew Jones – the second best damn squash player in Ontario – and took home the gold.

This was Nigro's second straight gold medal at the OUA individuals. He also won gold at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport individual championships last year, and competed for Canada at the World University Games held this past summer.

Now do you see why he's the best?

The fact of the matter is that Rob squashes the competition in squash, and his favorite food? You guessed it, squash.

Terrible puns aside, the Pipe is happy in its new home of squash courts, and... well... squash courts.

So Rob, enjoy the Pipe whilst ye have it, for thee that beholdeth the Pipe, shall forever... shit, I ran out of space.
