Sweet green and deers

Re: "Everybody must get stoned – then drive," Jan. 10

To the Editor:

I would like to have some clarification concerning the quote by Joe Zedrin with regards to the effect of smoking marijuana and a person's ability to drive. He said, "You are not aware and you drive too slowly; if a deer hopped on the road, you would have already hit it by the time you remembered to go for the brakes." Has Joe ever seen a deer hop on to the road in front of a car?

Case in point – Sunday morning, Jan. 4, at 7 a.m.. I was driving down Wonderland Road South on my way to the Hamilton airport, when, out of nowhere, three deers hopped onto the road and no matter how fast I applied the brakes, I hit two of them.

For your information, I had not smoked the sweet green. The damage to the car is about $1,000 and both deers got away.
