An apology to all women: you deserve better
in the web
Some guys are stupid. Surely some are not, but recent events have led me to believe that I cannot say that about enough of us.
In the past, I have used this column space to rant about the how stupid George Dubya is, but today I am trying to reach a much larger group.
On Tuesday, I had the unfortunate task of writing my second article dealing with an occurrence of a man sexually assaulting a women.
I wrote the first one last semester when a female resident of Saugeen-Maitland Hall was allegedly assaulted and harassed by a cab driver on the way home from the bar.
The second article told the story of a girl who, after accepting a ride home from The Drink with a guy she had just met, was assaulted by her new acquaintance and a couple of his friends.
Both of these stories disgust me. No one man or women ever deserves to be treated in such a despicable manner.
Whatever happened to the lost art of courtship? Why is it that some men feel the need to force themselves on a woman, rather than trying to impress or attract them? Obviously, they are using their physical strength to make up for their serious lack of self-confidence and social skills. Casanova never had to stoop as low as assault, and if these guys were half as cool as they think they are, they wouldn't have to either.
These horrendous acts are an important issue and deserve the attention
of Western students. What worries me the most is the thought that similar
acts are occurring that don't make the front page of The Gazette.
Both of these acts happened to Western students, and this most recent
event happened at a bar predominately attended by Western students.
As students of higher learning, I expect more from our academic community. If these acts were indeed committed by Western students, this is a sad day for all of us.
Losers who feel they can use their physical strength to assault a woman and satisfy themselves sexually are cowards. Women deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, and seen as equals rather than objects to dominate.
To the guys who committed these sickening acts: grow up and get some decency. The next time you want some action, try being a man and do it the way Casanova did.
Too scared to ask a girl out? Not man enough to treat a woman with the respect she deserves? Spend the $5 it costs to rent a porno, and take out your aggression on the person that deserves it YOU.
To all women, especially the victims of these horrifying crimes, I apologize, on behalf of myself and the rest of the real men out there. You deserve much better.
